POINTS OF SPECIAL EMPHASIS
-
Welcome to new students, parents, and faculty! Our school and PTO will stress an attitude which welcomes and informs new members of our Pen Ryn family and generally promotes the family atmosphere of the school. Returning students and parents are asked to be generous in their efforts to help new students and families become acquainted with Pen Ryn.
-
Our school has always enjoyed a great School Spirit. Everyone has a chance to add to this Spirit. Be involved, be positive, be supportive! HAVE SCHOOL SPIRIT!
-
All members of the Pen Ryn community are asked to work cooperatively to attain these main goals for each student:
a. academic development and achievement;
b. appropriate behavior and discipline in the classroom and all other aspects of the school;
c. the continued development of a student's academic and personal self esteem and confidence.
-
The Volunteer Program gives parents a special way to participate in their child's school experience. It also gives the school valuable expertise and support while saving thousands of dollars, thus reducing tuition. The enrollment contract states that families must give twenty-five (25) hours of service or make a donation to the school of approximately 10% of tuition. Report your hours to our Volunteer Coordinator, through the office. Families not meeting this obligation will be billed in June.
-
Discipline is a major concern in every school. Without it, everything is less effective. Under EXPECTATION OF STUDENTS we outline our thoughts on discipline. We need active parental support if a child misbehaves. Parents should be alert to the fact that continued, uncorrected misbehavior can become a very serious matter and can jeopardize a child's position at Pen Ryn. A quick summary of behavior expectations for students includes a focus on a positive attitude and spirit cooperation; proper language and behavior; and courteous, friendly interaction with other students and adults.
-
BUS SAFETY mandates good bus behavior. Misbehavior creates dangerous situations. Experience has shown that a loss of riding privileges or a bus suspension is by far the most effective measure to change misbehavior. Parents are alerted that an incident of misbehavior on the bus may result in a loss of riding privileges.
-
Students need to be in school EVERY DAY benefitting their full potential. Treat each day of attendance as an important day. Vacations during the school year are a disadvantage to strong students and create failing situations for students having difficulty. Pen Ryn does not recommend students miss school for vacations. Try to arrange doctor and dentist appointments so that little or no school time is lost. Parents need to call the school each day the student is absent.
-
All students must be in the building by 8:35 a.m. Lateness puts students in a poor position. They miss morning directions, must rush to unpack and get caught up. Continual lateness means continual upset each morning for the student.
-
Effective communication is essential to a child's success in school. Don't let something bother you. Contact the person immediately in charge if you have a question, concern, complaint, or suggestion. Set a special, private time for serious talks with your child's teacher. Don't drop in the classroom to chat, especially at the beginning of the day or at dismissal. The teacher must tend to all children at these times. Also, please keep social occasions purely social, do not use this time to conference.
-
Tuition income allows us to cover most of the costs of a Pen Ryn education. Fund raising activities help to support special projects in the school.
The Pen Ryn School is committed to a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, age, or sex.
