Upper School

The Upper School years are a time of increasing independence, responsibility, and self-discovery. At Pen Ryn School, students in Grades 5–8 are challenged academically while continuing to receive the support, guidance, and encouragement they need to thrive during these important developmental years.

 

As students transition into our middle school program, they enjoy greater independence through departmentalized instruction, moving between classes for core subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our engaging curriculum encourages critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving while preparing students for success in high school and beyond.

 

Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Students have opportunities to participate in interscholastic athletics, Student Council, and a variety of clubs and leadership experiences that help them develop confidence, responsibility, and a sense of community. Through our Advisory Program, students build meaningful connections with faculty mentors and peers while receiving support for their academic, social, and emotional growth.

 

We also recognize the importance of balance during the middle school years. Daily recess provides students with time to be active, socialize, and recharge, while Discovery Classes such as Newspaper, Nutrition, and Model United Nations allow students to explore new interests and develop valuable skills beyond the traditional curriculum.

 

The Upper School experience at Pen Ryn prepares students not only for the next stage of their education, but also for a lifetime of curiosity, leadership, and purposeful learning.
