Why PRS?

A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Families,

It is my great privilege to lead Pen Ryn into its 79th year as we continue to advance our place among Pennsylvania’s finest private schools. As both an alumnus and a current parent, I have experienced firsthand — twice over — the profound impact of a Pen Ryn education.

When I was choosing a school for my own sons, there was no question where I wanted them to learn and grow. I knew Pen Ryn would offer them the same foundation it gave me: an exceptional education in a safe, caring environment that would prepare them not just for the next step in academics, but for life.

So why Pen Ryn?

At Pen Ryn, we believe in educating the whole child. This means balancing a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with rich opportunities in art, music, athletics, citizenship, and character. Our intentionally small class sizes allow teachers to truly know each student, to nurture their strengths, support their challenges, and spark their curiosity every day.
Our graduates frequently share how their time here gave them the skills, confidence, and love of learning needed to succeed in high school and beyond. More importantly, they tell us how much they value the lifelong friendships and the caring community that is the heart of Pen Ryn.

In a world that changes rapidly, some things remain essential: a safe learning environment, teachers who truly care, and strong partnerships with families. Those timeless qualities are what set Pen Ryn apart. Here, we see the limitless potential in young people, and help them see it in themselves.

As you explore our website, I hope you begin to sense what makes Pen Ryn special. Even more, I invite you to visit our campus and experience it firsthand. Our vision is to work closely with each family so that every child can develop their unique gifts in a nurturing, supportive environment.

Please reach out anytime to start the conversation. I look forward to welcoming you to our Pen Ryn family.

Warm regards,

Leigh Reed
