Arts

Encouraging Creativity, Confidence, and Expression

The arts are an essential part of life at Pen Ryn, giving students opportunities to discover their talents, express themselves, and build confidence. Whether learning an instrument, performing on stage, or creating visual art, students engage in experiences that enrich their education and inspire a lifelong appreciation for creativity.

Band

Our band program is provided through a partnership with Music Forte, offering students in grades 2-8 the opportunity to learn wind, brass, and percussion instruments. Band practice takes place during the school day, making it accessible for all interested students.

As performances approach, students also rehearse after school to prepare for their concerts. Each year, the band performs at both a winter and spring concert, sharing their hard work and musical growth with family and friends.

Theatre

Theatre is a well-loved tradition at Pen Ryn. Each year, our 8th graders stage a full musical production, which is free for the community to attend. Students are involved in every aspect of the performance — from choreography and acting to set design and stage crew — giving them the chance to explore different talents and collaborate in meaningful ways.

Younger students can also get involved through our drama club for grades 4-7, which rehearses and performs its own show. These experiences build poise, creativity, teamwork, and a strong sense of accomplishment.

Visual Arts

Art classes at Pen Ryn are part of every student’s regular schedule, ensuring they have time and space to explore a wide range of creative skills.

Students work with all types of media, including painting, drawing, oil pastels, clay, recycled materials, and more. They also study artists at each grade level and create pieces inspired by those styles — gaining both technical skill and an appreciation for artistic traditions.

Our program includes access to a kiln for clay work, allowing students to experience the full process from forming to firing their creations.
