The Learning Center

At Pen Ryn School, we recognize that every child learns differently. Some students need additional support to build foundational skills and confidence, while others benefit from opportunities to explore concepts at a deeper level and move beyond grade-level expectations. The Learning Center was created to ensure that all students receive the challenge, support, and individualized attention they need to thrive.
 
Through a collaborative partnership between classroom teachers, specialists, and families, the Learning Center provides targeted services designed to help students reach their full potential. Our programs focus on meeting students where they are and helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
 
The Learning Center is built around two core areas of support: Academic Support and Academic Enrichment. Together, these programs allow us to address the diverse needs of our learners while maintaining high expectations for all students.

  • Academic Support

    The Academic Support Program provides targeted assistance for students who may benefit from additional instruction, intervention, or specialized services. Working closely with classroom teachers, Learning Center staff help students strengthen essential skills, build confidence, and develop strategies for success.
     
    Support may be provided through small-group instruction, individualized interventions, classroom accommodations, and collaboration with outside service providers. Pen Ryn also partners with the Intermediate Unit (IU) to offer services such as speech, academic remediation, and school counseling when appropriate.
     
    Our goal is not simply to help students keep pace, but to help them develop the skills, independence, and confidence needed to become successful learners. Through ongoing assessment and close communication with families, we ensure that support is responsive to each student's individual needs.

  • Academic Enrichment

    Academic Enrichment is designed for students who consistently demonstrate performance above grade-level expectations and are ready for additional challenge. Beginning in Kindergarten and continuing through Fourth Grade, students participate in small-group enrichment experiences in both reading and mathematics.
     
    These sessions provide opportunities for students to engage in higher-level thinking, creative problem-solving, advanced discussions, and exploration of topics beyond the standard curriculum. Rather than simply moving ahead more quickly, enrichment focuses on developing curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of concepts.
     
    Students may investigate complex mathematical problems, analyze literature at a more sophisticated level, participate in project-based learning experiences, and explore subjects that spark their interests. The program encourages students to take intellectual risks, think independently, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
     
    By providing meaningful academic challenge alongside strong classroom instruction, Pen Ryn ensures that advanced learners remain engaged, inspired, and supported in their continued growth.

Bucks County Intermediate Unit Services

Through Pennsylvania’s Act 89 program, Pen Ryn partners with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) to provide additional specialized support:
 

Academic Remediation

  • Available to students in grades 1-8, this service includes diagnostic testing, small group instruction, and focused help in reading and math.

  • Delivered one to two times per week, based on grade level and individual needs, and contracted through BCIU to Catapult Learning.

Psycho-Educational Services

  • Learning Screening Assessments offer insight into how a student learns, assessing areas such as intelligence, achievement, perception, and emotional or behavioral functioning.

  • Psychological consultations and assessments are available for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, coordinated by school leadership as needed.
