Our Preschool Programs

Pen Ryn’s Preschool program provides a warm, play-based introduction to school for young learners, fostering growth across social, emotional, and early academic areas. Each stage is thoughtfully designed to support a smooth progression toward kindergarten and beyond.

Flexible Scheduling

At Pen Ryn, we know every family’s needs are unique. That’s why our Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 programs offer flexible options: parents can choose 3, 4, or 5 days per week, with both full-day and half-day schedules available. This flexibility helps families create a school routine that’s just right for their child, whether easing into the classroom experience or enjoying a full-day program that balances learning, play, and growth.

Pre-Kindergarten 3

Building School Readiness Through Play and Discovery

Pen Ryn’s Pre-K3 program is designed to help young children take their first steps into school life. In a caring, playful environment, students begin building foundational skills that prepare them for Pre-K4 and beyond. The classroom is lively and welcoming, with activities tailored to meet the needs of three-year-olds, helping them grow socially, emotionally, and academically at their own pace.
Pre-Kindergarten 4

Pen Ryn’s Pre-K4 program offers a thoughtful, play-based approach that nurtures each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. Our program helps students build skills and confidence for a smooth transition into kindergarten, all in a caring environment where curiosity and creativity are encouraged every day.

PreK3 Curriculum

Reading Readiness
PreK3 students develop early literacy skills through joyful exploration of books, stories, songs, and rhymes. They:
- Enjoy books by looking at pictures and retelling stories in their own words
- Learn how to handle books correctly and turn pages from left to right
- Recognize that stories have a beginning, middle, and end
- Recite the alphabet and begin to associate letters with their sounds
- Identify rhyming words and opposites
- Build listening skills and begin asking and answering questions about stories
Writing & Pre-Writing Skills
Writing in PreK3 is about building confidence and fine motor control through fun, hands-on activities. Students:
- Identify, trace, and begin printing their first names
- Practice correct pencil grip and letter formation
- Work from left to right and top to bottom on the page
- Gain early exposure to uppercase and lowercase letters
- Develop hand strength and coordination through drawing, tracing, lacing, and using tools like glue sticks, scissors, and Play-Doh
Math Readiness
Math in PreK3 is hands-on and playful, helping children make sense of numbers and patterns in their world. Students:
- Count to 10 and understand the sequence of numbers
- 1-10 Match, sort, classify, and compare objects by shape, size, color, and quantity
- Explore concepts like “how many, ” “more or less, ” and one-to-one correspondence
- Identify and name simple 2D shapes
- Recognize, copy, and begin to extend patterns
- Understand that addition increases the whole and subtraction decreases it in simple stories
- Explore measurement by comparing sizes from largest to smallest
- Get introduced to graphing with simple bar graphs and pictographs
Science & Social Studies
Our PreK3 curriculum encourages natural curiosity about the world. Students:
- Explore weather, the seasons, and months of the year
- Learn about plants, animals, and insects
- Discover the five senses
- Talk about famous people, events, holidays, and traditions
Social Development
Helping children grow socially is a cornerstone of PreK3. In our classrooms, students:
- Make friends, use manners, and learn to share and take turns
- Solve problems respectfully and work with partners or small groups
- Develop self-confidence and self-control
- Follow directions and complete tasks from start to finish
- Show respect for classroom materials and each other
- Practice teamwork to reach common goals

Reading Readiness
Pre-K4 students are introduced to the building blocks of reading through fun, engaging activities that develop essential early literacy skills. They learn to:
- Recognize letter names and beginning sounds, exploring both uppercase and lowercase letters
- Understand story parts like the cover, title, author, illustrator, genre, and whether a book is fiction or nonfiction
- Build print awareness and phonological awareness, including rhyming and identifying beginning sounds
- Explore story elements such as characters, setting, sequencing, recalling and retelling, comparing and contrasting, and making predictions
- Develop listening and sequencing skills through stories, rhymes, and class discussions
- Strengthen visual discrimination skills important for recognizing letters and words
- Begin to learn sight words and expand vocabulary used in everyday texts
Writing & Pre-Writing Skills
Pre-K4 students focus on developing the fine motor and early writing skills that set the stage for becoming confident writers in kindergarten. They:
- Print their first names using correct uppercase and lowercase letters
- Practice proper pencil grip and hand positioning
- Learn about line placement and writing directionality (left to right, top to bottom)
- Build hand strength and coordination through drawing, tracing, and other hands-on activities
These foundational skills help children feel comfortable and capable when they begin formal writing in kindergarten.
Math Readiness & Cognitive Skills
Through hands-on exploration, Pre-K4 students build early math understanding. They work on:
- Counting with one-to-one correspondence and matching numbers to sets
- Recognizing numerals 1-20 and understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities
- Comparing, ordering, and understanding concepts like more than, less than, and equal sets
- Identifying basic shapes and exploring plane and solid figures
- Sorting by size, color, and shape, and recognizing and creating patterns
- Learning about position and direction (left, right, ordinal numbers)
- Exploring simple addition and subtraction stories
- Measuring and comparing objects by length, weight, and other attributes
- Creating simple graphs such as line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts, and pictographs
Science & Social Studies
Our Pre-K4 curriculum taps into children’s natural curiosity about the world. Students:
- Explore the five senses
- Observe weather changes and plant life through the seasons
- Investigate animals, their homes, and habits
- Study insects and nature up close
- Learn about important historic people, events, holidays, and traditions
Discover different modes of transportation and types of work people do in the community
Social Development
Equally important to academics, our Pre-K4 program emphasizes social growth. Children practice:
- Using manners and kind words
- Sharing, taking turns, and working together during group activities
- Solving problems respectfully in social situations
- Taking responsibility through simple classroom jobs
- Building teamwork during center time and small group projects
These everyday experiences help students develop empathy, self-regulation, and the social confidence needed for kindergarten and beyond.
