Art
In addition to the wide variety of materials and projects in the Pen Ryn art curriculum, students also have opportunity to participate in the following special events.
Every March Pen Ryn celebrates Youth Art Month by hosting a school wide art show. Students from the three year old class through to eighth grade display the art work they have created throughout the year. The gym is turned into an art gallery and families are invited to view the work.
Artsonia the world’s largest online art gallery features student work throughout the school year. Go to www.artsonia.com to view a sample of our student’s work. Families enjoy being able to show relatives who live afar their children’s art work.
Student art work is also displayed through out the community. Our school has shown work at The Bucks County Intermediate Unit. This year we have been invited to show at the James A. Michener Art Museum.
Students are also encouraged to enter contests. The Doodle for Google and the Bucks County Courier Times Art Contest are two popular contest
Band
The band program begins in 4th grade. The students can rent the instrument through a company associated with NorthEastern Music Company, they also perform two recitals one in February and one in May.so provide a instructor. The classes are held during the school day.
Chess
First graders learn the game of chess during the year from a guest instructor. All students also have oportunities to play chess through the enrichment program after school.
Drama
Music
The music program at Pen Ryn allows for performance opportunities at every level. All students in grades PK through 6 perform in the Holiday Concert, a favorite annual event inclusive of singing, choral movement, and instrumental selections on soprano recorders and hand chimes. Student voices exhibit growth as they move from unison singing in the lower grades to part singing in the intermediate grades.
Each year, the eighth grade class offers a full musical. The music curriculum includes the preparation of a dramatic theatre piece with singing, choreography, and drama. Students help in the construction of backdrops and props and often design choreography themselves. This theatrical performance includes all eighth grade students. Most recently, the selections have been from the Broadway Junior division of Music Theatre International.
Music Lessons
During the school day Pen Ryn offers violin lessons are offered (for an addition cost) to students in Pre-K to grade 3..and piano lessons for K to 4 th grade students.
